Svinessaga Friluftssenter
Nestled by the scenic Goksjø lake, Svinessaga Friluftssenter is a true gem for outdoor enthusiasts, operated by DNT Sandefjord. This year-round nature retreat transforms into a winter wonderland when the temperatures drop. If the ice conditions allow, bring your hockey, figure, or touring skates and glide across the frozen lake. For extra winter fun, DNT Sandefjord offers free kickboards, and there’s even a climbing park on-site. Take a break on the benches, warm up by the fire pans, and grill your own food for a perfect outdoor experience. To make the most of your visit, dress warmly, pack some sausages for grilling, and bring a thermos of hot cocoa. In Thor Dahls gate, next to Kurbadhagen, you’ll find one of Sandefjord’s smallest galleries; Galleri Brown. In the city center, Galleri ER offers 300 square meters of art, featuring a wide selection of original paintings, graphics, and sculptures, as well as exciting solo exhibitions throughout the year. If you venture to the far side of Vesterøya, Galleri Flood waits by the sea with exhibitions of ceramics and paintings, along with ceramics courses for those who want to get creative themselves. Storås cross-country skiing
Cross-country skiing is a beloved winter activity in Norway, and Sandefjord offers fantastic opportunities to hit the trails. Storås Ski Resort in Stokke features approximately 20 km of well-maintained cross-country skiing trails, along with a dedicated ski playground. The area includes a 4.2 km lighted trail for evening skiing, as well as two scenic loops: Storåsrunden, a 7 km route, and Fokserødrunden, which passes through Vestergården and extends towards Fokserød. Storås Ski Resort was honored as Sports Resort of the Year at the Vestfold Sports District's Sports Gala in 2019. Open to everyone, the resort is easily accessible from Stokke Ravei at the Granerødveien bus stop, with on-site parking available for a small fee. Beyond Storås, Sandefjord has several other great spots for cross-country skiing, including Håsken in Andebu and Runar Ski in Haukerød. Not a fan of winter swimming? Try a warm indoor bath instead. Sandefjord offers warm and inviting indoor pools where you can unwind and enjoy the water at a comfortable 28 to 34 degrees Celsius. At Sandefjord Svømmehall, you'll find a hot water pool for the little ones, a 25-meter main pool, a diving section with platforms at 1, 3, and 5 meters, and a 55-meter water slide with a thrilling 5.8-meter drop. If the weather isn’t ideal for outdoor skating, don’t worry—Sandefjord offers fantastic indoor skating opportunities as well! In 2018, the city welcomed its long-awaited ice rink, which was later named Norway’s Sports Facility of the Year. Located in beautiful Bugårdsparken—once awarded the title of Norway’s best sports park—this rink was built not just for elite athletes but for everyone, including those with disabilities. The rink is open to the public on weekends and weekday afternoons, offering a completely free opportunity to enjoy the ice. If you don’t have your own skates, you can borrow a pair at the kiosk during opening hours or through BUA, which provides free rentals of sports and leisure equipment. So, whether you're a seasoned skater or just looking for a fun winter activity, head to Bugårdsparken and glide into the season!
